Kunst Museum Winterthur | Reinhart am Stadtgarten
The Kunst Museum Winterthur | Reinhart am Stadtgarten, is located in the building of the former Oskar Reinhart Museum. With its opening in 1951, it became Switzerland’s first private museum. It accommodates a majority of pieces from the Oskar Reinhart Foundation, including Swiss, Austrian and German art from the 18th and 19th century. The exhibition centers around the unique group of works of German Romanticism, represented by its centerpiece: Chalk Cliff on Rügen by Caspar David Friedrich. Extraordinary is also the extensive collection of Swiss paintings from Jean-Etienne Liotard, Caspar Wolf to Albert Anker and Ferdinand Hodler. Furthermore, waiting to be experienced, are the Dutch masters of the golden age from the Jakob Briner Foundation and a broad selection of the many miniature portraits from the collections Briner and Kern, displayed in alternating exhibitions.
