Kunst Museum Winterthur |
Beim Stadthaus

The Kunst Museum Winterthur | Beim Stadthaus is the oldest of Winterthur’s museums. In 1848 the Kunstverein Winterthur (Art Association Winterthur) was founded, and the building opened in 1916. The house hosts one of the most beautiful modern art collections of Switzerland with outstanding group of works from impressionism to contemporary art. The collection takes its visitor from the end of the 19th century with Monet, van Gogh, Rodin through cubism and surrealism to the beginnings of abstraction, as demonstrated by excellent group of works from Hans Arp, Sophie Taueber-Arp through to Mondrian. In 1995 an extension was added to the museum by the architects Gigon & Guyer for upcoming temporary exhibitions. It is mainly dedicated to contemporary artists and their work such as Philip Guston, Elsworth Kelly or Gerhard Richter.
