Fotostiftung Schweiz

Experience photography in its diversity, as an artistic form of communication or historical document, illuminating world views, experiences and states of mind. This is made possible by the vast collection of the Fotostiftung Schweiz. As the oldest and leading institution for Swiss author photography the Fotostiftung Schweiz collects, preserves, researches and publishes photographical work since 1971. The exhibits are displayed in special exhibitions at their residence in Winterthur. In the name of the federal office of culture the institution maintains over 100 archives of outstanding photographers as well as a collection of approx. 60'000 print exhibits, 250’000 archive copies and 1 million negatives and slides. Through its exhibits and publications, the Fotostiftung Schweiz reflects on historical and current developments of the art of photography. Together with the Fotomuseum Winterthur, it runs a specialized public library with approx. 20’000 books. This puts Winterthur on the map as a major international hub for photography.
